Of course, we’re going to start this list off with Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is one of the seven new wonders of the world. Its name means “Old Mountain” in the Incan tongue of Quechua, and it was built without the aid of wheels.
Instead, the massive stones were carried into their respective places largely by hand. They were also fitted together rather than cemented or glued.

2. Lima
Lima is Peru’s capital city and is home to a whole host of amazing sights and activities. You might try going to the Plaza de Armas.
The Plaza de Armas is one of the most historic areas in all of Peru. Not only is it the location of the president’s house, but it also houses some of the earliest buildings from Spanish colonial times.
Keep in mind that while the Plaza de Armas is one of the oldest places in Peru, it’s also one of the most dangerous. The crime rate there is quite high, and it doesn’t help that it’s a tourist hub, where swindlers of all kinds will be looking for a quick buck.
In addition to the Plaza de Armas, there’s also great restaurants, museums, and some excellent ocean views. There’s something for almost everybody.
3. Cusco
Cusco is a truly unique city. Once the capital of the Incan empire, the city today is an amalgamation of old and new, where Incan buildings give way to colonial Spanish constructions. Those, in turn, are replaced by more modern structures.
The city has its own Plaza de Armas, which is just Spanish for parade ground, that houses an array of amazing architecture, museums, and restaurants. There’s also the Cusco Cathedral, a massive Catholic church built by the colonial Spanish.
4. The Sacred Valley
Located right near Cusco and Machu Picchu is the Sacred Valley. The Sacred Valley was a place where the Inca grew maize, a crop that was central to their lifestyle.
Today, it still holds many ancient sites and is very popular among tourists.
